DIAMOND STUDS

A good stud gives the horse just that self-confidence and safety to perform optimally in what he does. Studs will help the horse gain more traction on muddy or deep surfaces such as sand, whether he is taking a walk, jumping or racing...  Diamond has a wide range of studs, designed for the needed options to ride all year long. Discover when an how to use what stud.

Let's give the horse that grip to make every movement safe and confident.

When to choose studs?

Choosing whether or not to use studs is the first step in durable shoeing. Studs can give horses the confidence they need, especially during competition on challenging grounds. On the other hand, using the right stud and appropriate horseshoe is essential to reduce the risk of injury.

which studs to choose

Which stud to choose?

Depending on the surface, you choose either a pointed or a square bullet-shaped stud. The more pointed studs are designed to provide more traction on harder and slippery surfaces. The square rounded and bullet-shaped studs, however, give horses the traction they need on softer surfaces.

What stud size to choose?

Always try to use the smallest stud possible and only when needed. Studs are great to give the horse more traction, but when used to long and unnecessary they can injure the horse as well. Make sure to use a stud that allows a little slipping and that sink fully into the ground to maintain optimal balance.

Some do's and don'ts

  • Attach the studs right before heading out for the activity and immediately take them off afterwards.
  • Studs should always be used in pairs, meaning one on each side of the hoof and always use studs on both left and right hoof.
  • Make sure the horse is equipped with protective leg boots while using studs.
  • Always supervise the horse when it is wearing studs. Even if it is just temporarily in the field, in a stall, or in a trailer.
  •  Avoid using studs on a horse experiencing lameness.
