A GOOD CLIP HAS IT ALL

The benefits of working with Olympic and Radius Clips

Whether you opt for an Olympic clip or a Radius clip, every Kerckhaert clip has it:  broad and solid, tapered and of ideal height. Both clip designs guarantee the correct ratio between clip and size. The broad and solid base of the clip prevents it from folding outwards during shoeing period. This guarantees the well-being of the horse. If you wish to pull the clip up higher, this is no problem at all. There is enough material at the base of every clip to allow the material to be forged to the desired height.

Olympic Clip System

The OLYMPIC CLIP SYSTEM can be best compared to a traditionally made clip. This means the clip is made of the base material that the horseshoe is made of. A characteristic of this system is that the clip is set a little back into the shoe. Because material is removed from the horseshoe, (such as during forging), a nicely tapered and solid clip is created. Sufficient material remains at the base to pull the clip up, if necessary.

For proper use of the shoe, it is necessary to rasp the hoof wall at the location of the clip. In this way, the shoe can be given a proper fi t. As a result, the clip becomes part of the hoof wall, as it were.

Did you know?

Royal Kerckhaert was the first to develop the Radius clip? And, the first to develop horseshoes with this clip placed between the first and second nail hole?

Radius Clip

Radius Clip Technology

The RADIUS CLIP SYSTEM proves itself time and time again. The main difference with the Olympic Clip System is that with the Radius Clip System, extra material is added to the base material of the shoe. It’s with this extra material that the clip is formed. Because of this extra addition of material, the clip ends up being positioned completely on the outside, the rim (radius), of the shoe. The radius clip is nicely tapered and has more than enough material at the base. If there is any further forging, naturally this will not adversely affect the support surface of the horseshoe.

An added advantage is that the shoe can be fitted directly. Therefore, little or no material needs to be removed from the hoof wall to make the shoe fit.

Kerckhaert quality, a cast-iron guarantee

Kerckhaert Horseshoes are renowned for their quality. And that is no surprise  because every shoe is made to Kerckhaert’s five golden rules. Moreover, every shoe is checked on 35 aspects of quality. In other words, quality is not an empty promise but a castiron guarantee.

What's the use of a clip?

The primary function of clips is to reduce pressure on the nails, improving the stability of the attachment of the shoe to the hoof, which goes beyond what the nails can achieve on their own. When horseshoes are subjected to greater forces or rotational movements against the surface, the nails attaching the shoe to the hoof can become loose and even become dislodged.

What clip position?

Clips are placed on the shoe in different places, depending on what is needed. Whether you opt to use toe clips, side clips or no clips at all, the the decision should always be based on the needs of the individual horse.

- Toe Clips allow natural expansion
The primary goal of a toe clip is to prevent a shoe from slipping back on a horse’s hoof without interfering with foot expansion.

- Side clips offer added control
Side and quarter clips help stabilizing the shoe laterally. By gently constraining the hoof wall's expansion, they help maintaining the hoof's natural form. They allow for the adjustment of the breakover point to a more rearward position.

Patented
Support Model

The registered SUPPORT MODEL offers the same support as a wider shoe, but does not add the extra weight. As the logo indicates, shoes marked with this logo are produced with a wider toe and heels section. This allows you to give the horse more support by fitting the shoes longer and wider at the heels.

Roller Section

The patented Roller Section provides an additional rolling on the toe  of the horseshoe that allows the horse to experience better breakover and hoof coordination.
Smart Finish - icon

Patented
Smart Finish

The Patented Smart Finish has been developed for the complete range of dropped forged aluminium shoes and race plates. This Smart Finish on the foot surface gives the shoe more grip against the hoof, while the heels are left smooth to avoid restriction of the natural expansion of the hoof.
